The luxury of
darkness.

An art born almost entirely from black—where light is not added, but patiently recovered.

The medium

Light before photography.

Mezzotint is among the rarest and most demanding forms of intaglio printmaking. Its incomparable blacks are created first; the image emerges through the slow recovery of light.

A private practice of seeing
“The image does not enter the plate. It is released from darkness.”
Identity · body · memory · interiority

Hancharova’s practice considers the human being as a layered, shifting structure: relationships, experiences and interior worlds converging in a single image. Figures appear to dissolve, overlap and return—less as portraits than as states of becoming.
